St Victor

In honour/celebration of my Name Day (11/24 November) and my heavenly patron, an icon and a life of St Victor of Damascus: The Holy Martyr Victor was a soldier during the reign of the emperor Marcus Aurelius (161-180). When the emperor began a persecution against Christians, Victor refused to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods. Such obligatory sacrifices were a test of a soldier's loyalty to the gods, the emperor and the state. The saint was given over to torture, but he survived all the torments unharmed. By the power of prayer he was victorious over a sorcerer, who from that point gave up give sorcery and became a Christian. Through St Victor's prayers, blind soldiers suddenly received their sight. Witnessing the miracle worked by the Lord through St Victor, Stephanida, the young Christian wife of one of the torturers, openly glorified Christ, for which she was condemned to a cruel death. She was tied to two palm trees bent to the ground, which when released, sprung back and tore her apart. She was fifteen years old. The torturer ordered that the holy Martyr Victor be beheaded. Hearing the commander's order, St Victor told his executioners that they would all die in twelve days, and that the commander would be captured by the enemy in twenty-four days. As he foretold, so it came to pass. The martyrs suffered in the second century at Damascus, where their venerable relics were buried.

My Photo Blog

Okay. I've finally gone ahead and set up a separate blog for my photographs: an applied liturgikon I'm going to start off by posting the silly self portrait I took a couple of weeks ago - just to scare off any idle or curious passers-by ... but beware: the whole site is still very much a work in progress...

The Next Phase

So ... here we are on the last day of my Open Text contract (3 months stretched waaay out to 10+) ... time to consider: what next? Photography or Development? And/or? Or, alternatively, ... ??? No, no. One day at a time. Each day has troubles (and joys!) enough of its own. Anyway, on the programming side of things - thanks to my friends at dataWise - I learned all about the Django Project today. Hmm. Might investigate that and see if I can cobble together something truly illusionally...

By way of explanation

I originally conceived of this, ahem, space as a photo blog. Unfortunately, whilst currently trying to juggle two full-time careers - software development and care-giver for an elderly & ailing mother - the only time I have for photography and life, really, is the bright sun of noonday. Not always the best light for life ... and the very worst time of day for photography. Nevertheless, out I go ... camera in tow ... most days ...

As in most of life, there may also be a spiritual meaning in all this. (Hopefully not like peeling an onion: underneath one layer another and, then, another and another ... leaving ... well, nothing.)
